Waharoa curved gateway

We have a beautiful waharoa (curved gateway) located in front of the office. We went to see the waharoa, toyched the curving and talked about what we could see.

There were taniwha, a fantail, and a lizard on the waharoa. There are also students, teachers, Waikato te awa, Mahehe and Hotumane on the waharoa too.

We drew and painted the waharoa today.

What a beautiful job everyone did! We are going to use the pictures for writing next week!

Learning about hot air balloons

This week, we have been seeing many hot air balloons in the sky as Balloons over Waikato is happening.

We have tried some science experiments.

We used vinegar and baking soda in a bottle and a balloon attached to the bottles. We saw the balloon inflated as there were bubbles created becoming gas.

We also watched so videos to see how hot air balloons worked.
We drew pictures of hot air balloons on Friday.

We loved reading I am Jellyfish this week!

This week, we read I am Jellyfish. The children loved learning new words, the story line and its beautiful illustrations.

Naturally they said that they wanted to draw the jellyfish. This was all initiated by the children.

On Friday we made jellyfish using paper bowls. We watched a video about jelly fish and learnt that jellyfish does not have eyes!

We glued tissue paper on top of the bowl and dried it. We then added tendrils to our jellyfish.

We went outside with our jellyfish and pretended that we were swimming in the ocean just like the jellyfish says in the book pulsing “I am what I am.”
