Celebrating Matariki

This week, we have celebrated Matariki together in our classroom. Our children were especially excited about the Matariki Feast Day where we baked bread and roasted vegetables. Matariki is the time to come together with people we care about, cook kai, sing, and spend time with each other. Our children were very keen on kneading the bread dough and helping cut the potatoes, kumara, and pumpkin. I was so impressed with the children who were cutting the vegetables for learning to use a knife! Some of them were confident at cutting, and they said that they help their family in the kitchen!
Once the bread dough raised, we each had a turn at rolling the dough in the round shape. They loved doing this activity and said it was like playdough!

Once everything was cooked, we sat together in a circle and shared our kai. What a wonderful way to celebrate Matariki. Awesome work, everyone!
