Making soup and garlic bread for Matariki celebration

When we talked about how we could celebrate Matariki, we read a few books about Matariki and what people did to celebrate. Our children had some discussions about how we could celebrate Matariki and they came up with making pumpkin soup and garlic bread.

So this is what we did last Thursday! Our children were so excited about the day and we quickly got ready to prepare the meal.

Many children showed great confidence at using knives appropriately, it looked like they did help in the kitchen with their families.

Our children loved eating garlic bread! I love how many children gave it a go and ate the soup too!
Matariki is time to share kai, spend time with each other and be together. We have been really enjoying learning about ngā whetu o Matariki and many Matariki waiata.
