Week 4 Making waikato te awa, Taupiri te maunga in the sandpit
We have been talking a lot about Waikato te awa (river) and Taupiri te maunga (mountain). Last week, we made the river and experimented putting bamboo leave waka (canoe) on the river. This week, we made the river and the mountain in the sandpit. We worked together to make the trails for the river. Some children worked hard to make the mountain.
On Friday, we made Waikato te awa and tāniwha.
We looked carefully at patterns on taniwha’s bodies. Some had zigzag patterns and others had koru patterns. They were very colourful.

Our portraits!
We have started working on our portraits. We made the background first with paints and drew ourselves with sharpies and coloured with soft pastels. Our children really enjoyed using pastels and rubbing colours with their fingers.

Term 1, week 1 begins!
Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome to Room 2’s blog “Passionate Learners”!
We have had great first 2 days of school, it has been amazing welcoming children and getting to know them.
We are a play-based classroom and our tamariki were so curious at finding their interests and were engaged in their play for a long period of time. We have tried doing process art which involved dropping different colours of paints on a piece of paper and sliding the squeegee down and upwards. The children were so mesmerised at the effects that created. They said that it was the most fun thing we did on the second day!
I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone and their whānau in Room 2!
