We have been learning about Waikato te awa. Awa is river in Māori. We have been reading about taniwha that lives in a river.
We made waka with bamboo leaves and made Waikato te awa outside!
We observed how the water ran and how it pushed the waka. Some children noticed the courts had a slight slope which made water trails on the slope. We had so much fun with this activity and talked about how the awa started from Lake Taupo and ran to Port Waikato.
We also did some sorting of our shoes. We learnt that we could sort into types of shoes and colours. One of the children said that people like pink and blue shoes to wear in our class as those were the most popular colours.
And of course we continued to work on our portraits! These children loved using the fly swats to splat the paints on the paper. Tiny square patterns were made by the fly swats.
